Arvind Kejriwal’s hearing in Delhi High Court: ‘ED is trying to stop me from taking part in the elections’

Arvind Kejriwal informed the Delhi High Court that he will not be able to participate in the upcoming elections due to the timing of his arrest.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Wednesday told the Delhi High Court as the court began hearing his plea against his arrest by the ED in the liquor policy case that the timing of the arrest is like a democratic issue as Kejriwal is the petitioner. Will not be allowed to participate in the election process. Singhvi started the debate by claiming that, even before the first vote was cast, the arrest was an attempt to destroy the Aam Aadmi Party.

Singhvi raised doubts over the timeliness of Kejriwal’s arrest, saying, “Level playing field is not just a word or a phrase; it is part of free and fair elections, which is part of democracy and the basic structure.” Parts. This (arrest) seems like a problem of timing: trying to uproot the political party before the first vote and stay away from the elections. Current concerns about democracy, infrastructure, and free and fair elections. This time is indicative of democracy, free and fair elections, and infrastructure problems. What is the need or urgency here?”

Singhvi argued that the ED had not received any evidence in support of Section 50 of the PMLA between October 30, 2023 (the date of the first summons) and March 16, 2023 (the date of the ninth summons). According to Kejriwal’s lawyer, the ED’s remand request indicates that they want to find out the role of the Chief Minister, which cannot be a justification for arrest.

On April 1, Rouse Avenue Court had kept Kejriwal in judicial custody for fifteen days. The Delhi Chief Minister is appealing in the High Court against his arrest.

Although Kejriwal was transferred to Tihar, he continued to serve as chief minister; On Tuesday, AAP MP Sanjay Singh got bail in the same case. However, according to the Supreme Court, Sanjay Singh’s bail cannot be used as a precedent in any other case.
