CERT-In Issues Urgent Warning for Apple Users Over Critical Vulnerabilities

CERT-In has issued a critical warning to Apple users, urging them to update their software immediately to prevent potential security threats like data breaches and code execution. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team flagged multiple vulnerabilities in Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, Macs, and others. These flaws could lead to serious risks such as information leaks, security bypasses, denial of service attacks, and more.

The advisory, dated August 2, lists affected Apple software versions, including iOS and iPadOS versions before 17.6 and 16.7.9, macOS Sonoma before 14.6, macOS Ventura before 13.6.8, and others. Users are advised to apply the necessary updates to mitigate these risks. Apple has not confirmed any security risks yet.

Additionally, Apple has been sending alerts to users in over 150 countries, including India, about potential “mercenary spyware attacks,” similar to Pegasus from the NSO Group. Notable individuals, such as Iltija Mufti and Pushparaj Deshpande, have publicly stated they received warnings about possible hacks on their devices.

Apple emphasizes that these spyware attacks are rare and highly sophisticated. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Apple have not yet responded to inquiries regarding these issues. CERT-In continues to monitor the situation and advises users to stay vigilant and updated with the latest security measures.
