Deadpool and Wolverine Cast and Director
The film is directed by Shawn Levy, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Starring Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, the film also features Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen in the cast. The story involves the Time Variance Authority (TVA) pulling Deadpool from his quiet life to embark on a mission with Wolverine that alters the MCU’s history.
Development
Development of the third Deadpool film started at 20th Century Fox in November 2016. However, it was put on hold after Disney acquired the studio in March 2019. The character’s control shifted to Marvel Studios, which began developing a new film with Reynolds. This film integrates Deadpool into the MCU and maintains the R rating of the previous films, marking the first MCU film to have such a rating. Screenwriters Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin came on board in November 2020. Reese and Wernick returned for rewrites in March 2022, and Levy was hired as the director. The team struggled with the story until Hugh Jackman decided to reprise his role as Wolverine from Fox’s X-Men film series in August 2022.
Filming
Filming began in May 2023 at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional scenes shot in Norfolk and Bovingdon Film Studios. Production was paused in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike but resumed in November and concluded in January 2024. The film’s title was revealed a month later.
Deadpool and Wolverine Release Date
Deadpool and Wolverine is set to be released in the United States on July 26, 2024, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
Deadpool and Wolverine Budget
Reynolds noted that limited budgets boost creativity, focusing more on characters than spectacle. The first ‘Deadpool’ made $780 million on a $58 million budget.
