Social media platforms were flooded with various clips and images showing the earthquake’s impact across the island. These included harrowing scenes of people struggling in rooftop swimming pools and pets suffering distress amid the quake.
The earthquake had tragic consequences, killing nine people and injuring more than 1,000. Damage extended to several buildings, triggering tsunami warnings that affected areas as far away as Japan and the Philippines before being lifted.
