You know that instant when suddenly you realize you’re genuinely happy I can recall it so clearly. I sat in the passenger seat, gazing at the stunning Ubud rice fields, and silently thought, “Wow, I’m really happy at this moment,” all with a smile on my face.
It was just like the time when my two friends and I were enjoying seafood on Jimbaran beach at night, discussing our initial impressions of each other.
It felt much like sipping coconut water at Balangan beach, laughing hysterically at the silly jokes I cracked, jokes that later became our private little moments.
It was also like that morning when my friend and I woke up late but managed to get ready for brunch in just 15 minutes.
It was as simple as strolling from club to club, searching for the liveliest atmosphere.
Unexpectedly, those were the moments that became my favorites on that trip. The private jokes, the car tunes, the casual chats, the rush of 15 minutes, the late-night 10k steps—those simple joys surprised me the most.
That makes me realize that some of my happiest moments weren’t from major achievements or grand events. Sometimes, it was those small moments shared with friends. Other times, it was the freedom of being alone (when I felt a bit introverted). I’m not an expert, and even now, I can’t precisely define what happiness means to me. But one thing is clear: we don’t have to wait for a big event to be happy. Joy isn’t just for weekends, contentment doesn’t solely come from a partner, and fun isn’t exclusive to trips. Happiness can spring from anywhere, particularly the most unexpected moments.
