IIT Kanpur scientist Sameer Khandekar passes away

A scientist collapsed while addressing students about health awareness on a podium and never regained consciousness. Kanpur. Renowned scientist Professor Sameer Khandekar from IIT passed away.

On Friday, while speaking on the podium, he suddenly collapsed after having a stroke. Despite attempts to rush and lift him, he didn’t respond. People took him to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. His colleagues mention he had concerns related to cholesterol since 2019. It’s worth noting that he was also an IIT Kanpur student. Professor Samir Khandekar, aged 55, pursued his IIT education from Kanpur in 2000. After obtaining his Ph.D. in Germany in 2004, he served as an assistant professor at IIT Kanpur.

He had eight patents registered under his name, signifying discoveries no one had made before. Professor Khandekar held the position of a senior professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Kanpur and also served as the Dean of Student Affairs. He is survived by his wife and a son studying at Cambridge University. Professor Samir was addressing the Kanpur alumni meet when he urged everyone to take care of their health. Shortly after, he collapsed and never recovered.
