Following Iran’s attack on Israel last week, tensions in the Middle East region grew. Amid this strain, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani and US President Joe Biden will meet on Monday at the White House.
The primary goal of Sudanese’s first visit since taking office in October 2022 is to draw attention to US military participation in the coalition fighting terrorism.
However, in light of Iran’s massive missile and drone attack on Israel on Saturday, the meeting will also cover the tense situation in the region. US forces participated in the operation to counterattack Iran because they were stationed close to the northern Iraqi city of Erbil.

The Sudanese office also pointed out that the meeting is taking place during a delicate and sensitive period of regional and US relations.
Biden and the Sudanese would talk about “our shared commitment to the lasting defeat of ISIS and the evolution of the military mission,” according to a White House statement from March.
Iraq is making an effort to remain neutral in the US-Iran conflict in the interim. What is unclear in this situation is how to reduce the level of tension and what the future holds for the US-led alliance.
The goal of Iraqi officials has been to develop a schedule for withdrawing US forces. It is noteworthy that after the US-led invasion in 2003, Iraq had withdrawn US forces from the country.
However, after the attack by the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, which has taken control of a sizable portion of Syria and Iraq, US forces were redeployed. At the moment, there are roughly 2,500 soldiers in neighboring Syria and 900 in Iraq.
