The Indian Navy just pulled off a big save! They rescued all 21 crew members, including Indians, from a cargo ship that got hijacked in the Arabian Sea. Everyone’s safe now.
Indian Navy Rescues
So, turns out, the Indian Navy didn’t spot any pirates on the ship they intercepted. They got wind that the MV Norfolk was hijacked about 460 nautical miles off Somalia’s coast and sprang into action to rescue it.
Armed Intrusion at Sea
The ship’s crew was doing their thing when suddenly, five or six armed folks stormed in last Thursday. That British maritime security firm spilled the beans. The ship was headed for Khalifa bin Salman in Bahrain, but what it was carrying remains a bit of a mystery for now.
Navy Thwarts Hijack Attempt
The Indian Navy jumped into action after the hijacked ship called for help. INS Chennai swiftly intercepted the vessel within three hours of the distress call, and according to the Navy, the pirates likely backed off upon realizing they were about to be intercepted. This comes after a string of attacks in the Arabian Sea, prompting heightened naval patrols to keep things in check.
Vessels Attacked, Crews at Risk
On Christmas Day, things took a serious turn when the MV Kemp Pluto, an oil tanker headed to India, got hit by an antiship missile. The crew, including 21 Indians and a Vietnamese team, was bound for Mangalore. Just the day before, on December 24th, the MV Sai Baba was apparently struck by a missile in a Houthi drone attack. There were 25 Indian crew members on that vessel. Earlier in mid-December, the MV Ruan Amalda, with around 18 members on board, got hijacked by unknown attackers while it was on its way somewhere.
