The iPhone 16 is reported to launch at the same time as its predecessor, likely around September 10. However, the new AI feature, called Apple Intelligence, will only be available with the iOS 18.1 update, which is expected in October.
Traditionally, Apple has launched its new iPhone range, along with the latest version of iOS, in September. However, there were concerns this year about whether Apple would stick to this timeline because the AI features in iOS 18 weren’t ready.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple will not delay the iPhone 16 launch. Instead, the new AI features will be rolled out later in October.
It’s worth noting that Apple has delayed iPhone launches before due to incomplete software. For example, the iPhone 4s launch was pushed to October because Siri and iCloud weren’t ready for the original June launch date.
Apple Intelligence Features Coming in iOS 18.1
According to Gurman, the new Apple Intelligence (AI) features in iOS 18.1 are expected to roll out around October. Last week, Apple released the iOS 18.1 developer beta, offering a glimpse of some of these upcoming AI features.
The developer beta introduced several new features, including Siri’s improved contextual awareness, automatic movie creation in the Photos app, and advanced writing tools. Safari also received an upgrade with an AI-powered Summarize feature, which provides concise summaries of web pages and articles.
However, more significant upgrades like ChatGPT integration, Genmoji, and Siri app control are still pending and may not arrive until later this year or even next year.
