Russian Troop Losses
As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaches its two-year mark, there’s been little change on the ground. Moscow persists in its attacks on Kiev, resulting in loss of life and widespread devastation. Yet, a report from the UK’s Ministry of Defense suggests Russia may face a significant loss of 500,000 troops this year. The report indicates a spike in daily Russian casualties by nearly 300 compared to last year.
Zelensky Kamikawa Discuss Ukraine Relations
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky recently held talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa in Kiev. During the meeting, Zelensky expressed gratitude for Japan’s support to Ukraine and expressed hopes for stronger ties in 2024. Both leaders delved into enhancing cooperation between Ukraine and Japan, especially in Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction efforts. Japan has pledged $37 million to a NATO fund for providing anti-drone equipment to Ukraine. In the midst of this, Russia launched 28 attacks near Nepro. The Ukrainian air force claims to have successfully downed 21 of these drones. The attack left twelve people injured and caused damage to several buildings, including a school dormitory.
Violence Erupts in Ukrainian Cities
In the southern city of Kherson, two individuals lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries due to Russian shelling. The head of the Kherson city administration reported ongoing attacks from the Russian-occupied parts of the Kherson region on Sunday. Conversely, in Donetsk, three people were injured after Ukrainian armed forces shelled a hospital in the Leninsky district on the same day. The intensity of the attack also caused damage to nearby houses. Donetsk is among the regions in Ukraine partially occupied and claimed by Russia since last year. Despite this, Ukrainian troops maintain positions on its outskirts.
