Kerala court sentenced death to 14 people

The Kerala sessions court has now awarded death sentence to members of the banned Islamic organisation, The Popular Front of India. This decision is related to the murder of BJP OBC wing leader Ranjit Srinivasan, which was announced in December 2021. The decision came after an indictment sought the maximum punishment against the accused. The indictment claimed that the accused were a trained killing squad.

Kerala court sentences 14 people to death

This is actually seen as an unprecedented move by the judiciary because the sentencing of 14 people to death by the judiciary is actually something that has never been heard or seen before as it is actually a crime of that nature. In fact, we must tell our audience that political murders are quite common in different parts of Kerala. Different people from different political parties have been accused of political killings and it has a history. But this case, in particular, is of great importance given the cruelty and appalling nature in which it is executed.

PFI’s Cold-Blooded Killing in Kerala

A group of around a dozen people, allegedly belonging to the Popular Front of India (PFI), went to the house of BGP OBC wing leader Ranjit Srinivasan and carried out a meticulously planned and executed murder in front of the victim’s family, including his wife, daughter, and elderly mother. The assailants stood guard outside to prevent anyone from intervening.

The PFI has been allegedly involved in at least 24 political murders in Kerala, including the murder of Nandu R Krishna, an RSS swayamsevak, in February 2021, which spawned two allegedly retaliatory killings in Palakkad in April 2022.

Important Kerala Case: Preventing Extreme Actions

This case gained importance because of the brutality and horrifying nature and the conditions in which it was carried out and the planning to carry out such a brutal incident and that too in front of the victim’s family. So in this case we have to remember this. And also keep in mind that there are many such cases in Kerala itself. And the hope is that in the long run, this will serve as a deterrent to those who take extreme steps in the name of political rivalry and in the name of their ideology.
