Due to corruption charges, Glass applied for asylum at the Mexican Embassy in Quito in December. But when Ecuadorian authorities broke down the embassy’s exterior doors to detain him, they went against diplomatic protocol and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced the severance of diplomatic relations.
