MS Dhoni shots 2 helicopters with one-hand fan as he breaches security to meet him in Ahmedabad

MS Dhoni hit two sixes with one hand in the GT vs CSK IPL match and then hugged a fan who breached security to meet him in Ahmedabad.

There was a huge uproar and subsequent stampede at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad when the umpires asked Shivam Dubey to wait to check the height of the full toss. It was the Gujarat Titans’ home match, but there was no roar for the wicket. It was a wait to see MS Dhoni walk out to bat. The third umpire did not waste time in giving marching orders to Dubey. Dhoni went inside.

IPL has been a big festival for Dhoni for the last two years. This is routine now. Fans want Dhoni to bat at the top of the order, but he cannot bat at full strength for more than 15 balls due to a knee injury. He scored 11 runs against GT on Friday. Three of these were sixes. And no ordinary six.

Dhoni’s first six was a one-handed six off the knuckleball of Mohit Sharma. You can feel the vibrations in Narendra Modi Stadium. It was that loud. But Dhoni was starting. With 53 runs to win, even sixes off the remaining eight balls would not have been enough, but who cares? The fans just wanted Dhoni to bat them all. And he did just that, facing seven of them.

Dhoni deposited the first two balls of Rashid Khan’s last over in the stands. There was the first helicopter shot. He refused any turn as he danced on the track and used his powerful wrists to spin the ball hard. Rashid pulled down the next one. Dhoni was not in form, but he has such good hands that he doesn’t need to be in good condition. Not even two hands on the handle. The third ball was an anti-climax. For some reason, Dhoni decided to defend it, but it was googly, and it hit him on his back foot. There was a long, subdued appeal from Rashid but the umpire shook his head. GT’s stand-in Captain Rahul Tewatia sent it up.

Replays showed that the ball may have bounced over the stumps. Dhoni had three balls for entertainment. Dhoni deposited the first two balls of Rashid Khan’s last over in the stands.
