Navy’s 40-hour rescue operation: 35 pirates surrender, 17 crew members freed

Navi’s 40-hour rescue operation: Indian warship INS Kolkata on Saturday surrounded all 35 pirates and forced them to surrender, freeing the 17 crew members without any injuries. The Indian Navy gave this information in an official statement.

In this 40 hour long rescue operation, INS Kolkata through her deliberate action intercepted the pirate ship “Rouen” which was attacked by pirates about 2600 km off the Indian coast. This advanced rescue operation was supported by MARCOS launchers, high altitude long range aerial (HALE RPA) drones, P8I maritime patrol aircraft and C-17 aircraft dropped by INS Subhadra. Later, the ship was also cleaned for the presence of illegal arms, ammunition and contraband.

Earlier, the Indian Navy in a statement had informed about the ongoing rescue operation to rescue the pirate crew members in the distressed ship.
