NY Fraud Trial: Trump’s Ban on Speech Reimposed by Appeals Court

An appeals court has restored the ban preventing former President Donald Trump from talking about his significant New York civil fraud trial. This decision comes just a fortnight after a judge from the appeals court temporarily lifted the ban ordered by the trial judge. This directive restricts Trump from discussing the judge and his team overseeing a case that could significantly affect his real estate business.

Ken Delaney, our correspondent for Justice and Intelligence, is covering the latest developments. Ken, what has Trump said about this ban, and what is the court’s view on this decision?

Mr. Trump has referred to Judge Engeron as a radical, left-leaning, anti-Trump judge, even calling him a psycho. He also criticized the judge’s clerk, Alison Greenfield, accusing her of political bias and corruption. Later, Trump described the clerk as disturbed and angry, also targeting the judge’s wife, branding her as anti-Trump. A court security captain mentioned in a sworn statement last week that Greenfield, the clerk, has been bombarded with 20 to 30 calls daily on her personal phone and 30 to 50 messages a day on social media, LinkedIn, and two personal email accounts. Almost half of these harassing messages were anti-Semitic.

Trial judge Arthur Engeron, who implemented the ban, now plans to enforce it rigorously and aggressively.

Can you recap what else is going on with this case and what comes next?

We anticipate Mr. Trump will be in court on December 11th. Following the holidays, the judge has set a January 5th deadline for written briefs and scheduled closing arguments for January 11th. It’s crucial to note that the judge has already ruled in favor of fraud committed by Mr. Trump and his company. The judge has already ruled that Mr. Trump and his company committed fraud.
