Videos from tonight capture moments of chaos at a public school in New York City. Students from Hillcrest High School in Queens were seen marching, recording on their phones as they danced in a circle and waved Palestinian flags. The reason for targeting the teacher was an image circulating on social media showing her allegedly supporting Israel.
The teacher at Hillcrest High School was targeted because. of her support for Israel, expressed outside of school hours. And because of her Jewish identity. The NYPD received a threat call from a 45-year-old woman, leading to the dispersal of the crowd without incident. Mayor Eric Adams labeled the protest video as a display of anti-Semitism driven by ignorance and hate. Later, another warning about planned protests unless the teacher was removed prompted the school to deploy safety agents and lockdown. The Chancellor of NYC Public Schools assures that the situation is under control at the school and the teacher was not directly contacted.
There’s a belief that the situation has been blown out of proportion, casting all kids as anti-Semites, which might not be true for the 2500 students at the school. City Councilwoman Vicki Palladino calls for a shutdown pending investigation, expressing concern about the school’s leadership. She released a video of a separate incident – a fight among students and security officers being attacked – that occurred days earlier at the same school. Hillcrest High School states they’re investigating and working to educate students about unacceptable behavior.

The Chancellor mentioned that the incident occurred while students were changing classes, and many were unaware of what they were participating in.
Due to privacy rules, the school cannot comment on individual disciplinary actions, but the Chancellor confirmed some students have been suspended.
