Paris Olympics 2024: India Wins Bronze in Men’s Hockey

Paris Olympics 2024: The Indian men’s hockey team earned the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics by defeating Spain 2-1. The match took place at Yves-du-Manoir Stadium on Thursday, August 8. This marks India’s first consecutive Olympic medals in field hockey since the 1972 Munich Games, following their bronze at the Tokyo Olympics. With this achievement, India, the most successful team in the sport, now holds a total of 13 Olympic medals—eight golds, one silver, and four bronzes.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Singh led the charge, scoring the first goal in the 29th minute and extending the lead with another brilliant strike just after halftime in the 33rd minute.

Although Harmanpreet was the hero with both goals, it was goalkeeper Sreejesh, playing in his farewell game, who secured the victory by blocking every Spanish attempt as they pushed for an equalizer.

Earlier in the tournament, the team, led by Harmanpreet, faced a narrow 2-3 defeat to Germany in the semifinals.
