Pimp My Ride is making a comeback in a new form. Chris Redd, an actor and comedian, will host Netflix’s new car makeover series “Resurrected Rides,” premiering on July 24. The show will have eight 40-minute episodes.
Rick Hurvitz, co-creator of the original “Pimp My Ride” that aired on MTV from 2004 to 2007, will be an executive producer along with Brandon Killion, Ari Shofet, and Mike Odair.
“Resurrected Rides” is described as a modern car makeover series. Redd and his team will help deserving car owners transform their old, worn-out cars into roadworthy masterpieces. Hurvitz says they have taken the essence of the original show and updated it with a new host, cast, and modern technology. Shofet adds that the show aims to fulfill wishes with a comedic touch, providing amazing automotive makeovers to deserving individuals.
The original “Pimp My Ride,” hosted by Xzibit, ran for six seasons and inspired international versions and spinoffs like “Trick My Truck.” In each episode, Xzibit and a team of mechanics revamped a car at a custom shop, first at West Coast Customs and later at Galpin Auto Sports.
Chris Redd is known for his five seasons on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.” He recently appeared in the holiday film “Candy Cane Lane” with Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross and co-created the Peacock series “Bust Down.” His other credits include “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” “Disjointed,” “Wet Hot American Summer,” “Will & Grace,” “Detroiters,” and “Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents.” Redd will also star in the upcoming thriller “Merv” with Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox.
