Tropical Storm Debby Brings Rain, Clears by Weekend in Delaware

Tropical Storm Debby continued to move west overnight, and while Delaware isn’t directly in its path, the storm will still affect the weather.

The storm made landfall in South Carolina early Thursday morning and is now near the North Carolina border. According to the National Weather Service, Debby will track north into North Carolina as a Tropical Depression today and move through central Virginia on Friday morning.

New Castle County is likely to experience the heaviest impact, with an expected 1-2 inches of rain. Sussex and Kent counties are expected to receive under an inch. The chance of flooding is slight, with New Castle County having a 15% risk, and Sussex and Kent counties facing a marginal 5% chance. Debby is expected to pass by Delaware on Friday, leading to a sunny weekend.

  • Today: A 60% chance of showers with possible thunderstorms. Wind gusts could reach 20 mph, and highs will be in the upper 70s.
  • Friday: A 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and night. Winds will come from the southeast at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. Highs will be in the 80s. Heavy rain is expected overnight, with gusts up to 30 mph.
  • Saturday: A 30% chance of morning showers and thunderstorms, but skies will clear up, becoming partly sunny. Highs will be in the lower 80s.
  • Sunday: After the rain, expect a sunny beach day with highs around 80. There is a 30% chance of rain.
