Paris – On Saturday, the United States will face Brazil in the gold-medal match of the women’s soccer tournament at the Paris Olympics. The U.S. Women’s Soccer team is seeking its fifth Olympic gold medal, although it hasn’t won gold since 2012 in London.
The U.S. team was knocked out in the quarterfinals of the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016 and settled for bronze at Tokyo three years ago. The two teams have previously met twice in Olympic gold-medal matches. The U.S. emerged victorious both times – 2-1 in Athens in 2004 and 1-0 in Beijing in 2008.
Brazilian star Marta Vieira da Silva has the chance to end her international career with a gold medal. The 38-year-old forward, who has announced that this sixth Olympics will be her last major tournament with the national team, is back after serving a two-game suspension for a red card. However, she will start the gold-medal game against the United States on the bench.
