What did Saudi Arabia tell (Pakistan) on the issue of Kashmir?

During the Saudi Arabia era, a joint statement was issued by both countries after the meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. According to this statement, the issue of Kashmir also came up in the conversation between Sharif and Salman.

In the statement, it was said that both side’s Old mutual issues should be resolved through dialogue, especially the Jammu and Kashmir dispute so that peace and stability can be brought to the region. During this time, Sharif invited Mohammed bin Salman to visit Pakistan. According to the statement, Mohammed bin Salman also accepted this suggestion. However, the discussion in India regarding the meeting of Sharif and Salman is mostly about the statement given on Kashmir.

Saudi Arabia is a friendly country of both Pakistan and India, but on the issue of Kashmir, the views of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have appeared different in recent times. Kashmir has been such an issue due to which the distance between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan can also be seen in the year 2019. When Article 370 was abolished from Kashmir, Pakistan openly criticized India and tried to raise this issue at the international level.

Whereas Saudi Arabia had expressed concern over the removal of Article 370 but called it an internal matter of India, then Pakistan had expressed its displeasure over Saudi Arabia’s soft stance. India has been calling Kashmir an integral part of India. It is said that Kashmir was and will remain an integral part of the country, whereas Pakistan has raised the issue of resolving the Kashmir issue on many forums.

It has also been raising the issue of Pakistan in the United Nations and is also putting pressure on the OIC (Organization of Islamic Corporation). OIC is an organization of Muslim countries. Saudi Arabia has an important role in the organization of 57 members. It is said that the decisions of the organization are of Saudi Arabia. In the year 2020, an emergency meeting of foreign ministers of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Corporation) Contact Group was held on the issue of Kashmir. Owaisi had called this step a violation of India’s commitment to ratify the UN Security Council resolution.

In the same meeting, those two reports of the United Nations were welcomed in which it was said that the human rights of the people have been systematically violated in Kashmir. A different version of Saudi Arabia was seen on the issue in May 2023, when the G-20 was held in Kashmir. Apart from China, Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia also refused to participate in the Tourism Working Group meeting.

Regarding this happiness of Saudi Arabia, Professor Amitabh Mattoom, who had studied Kashmir affairs at Jawaharlal Nehru University, had said that in the past years, Saudi Arabia has tried to convey that it is not in any group. wants that it is moving towards strategic autonomy and its national interest is most important.
