Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, a tech pioneer and one of Google’s earliest employees, has passed away at the age of 56 after a two-year battle with lung cancer, her husband Dennis Troper announced. In a heartfelt Facebook post, Troper described Wojcicki as not only his best friend and life partner but also a brilliant mind, a loving mother to their five children, and a dear friend to many.
Troper expressed his deep sorrow, saying, “Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable. We are devastated, yet thankful for the time we shared with her. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we go through this difficult time.”
Susan Wojcicki, a prominent figure in Silicon Valley, was instrumental in Google’s early days, hosting the company’s founders in her California garage. She later became Google’s 16th employee and spent nearly 25 years at the company.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai paid tribute to her on social media, calling Wojcicki “core” to Google’s history. “She was an extraordinary person, leader, and friend who significantly impacted the world. I’m one of many at Google who is better for having known her. We will miss her dearly,” Pichai wrote.
Susan Wojcicki served as YouTube’s CEO for nine years before stepping down in 2023 to focus on her family, health, and personal projects. During her tenure, she guided YouTube through its growth into a social media giant while also facing challenges related to misinformation and harmful content online.
Reflecting on her time at YouTube, Wojcicki wrote, “I’m so proud of everything we’ve achieved. It’s been exhilarating, meaningful, and all-consuming.”
