Nisha Dahiya’s Valiant Effort Wins Hearts Despite Wrestling Loss at Paris Olympics 2024

Indian wrestler Nisha Dahiya was left in tears after a heartbreaking quarterfinal loss in the women’s 68 kg freestyle category at the Paris Olympics 2024. Nisha faced North Korea’s Pak Sol Gum and was leading 8-1 with just over 90 seconds remaining. Unfortunately, she sustained a serious injury to her right hand, leaving her in severe pain.

Despite receiving medical attention, Nisha was unable to recover the strength in her hand. Pak Sol Gum took advantage of this, scoring nine straight points to win the match 10-8. In the final moments, with the score tied at 8-8, Nisha was unable to continue, ultimately surrendering without a fight.

Nisha’s brave performance has garnered widespread admiration online, even though her Olympic journey in this category ended in tears. There’s still a chance she could compete in the repechage round if her opponent reaches the final, but whether she’ll be fit enough to compete remains uncertain.

Earlier in the competition, Nisha had won her opening bout against Ukraine’s Sova Rizhko 6-4, making her one of India’s top contenders in the wrestling events. Nisha is an Asian Championships silver medallist and was India’s only representative in the heavyweight category at the Games.
